Mariposas amarillas han sido uno de los símbolos más representativos de la obra de Gabriel García Márquez. Aparecieron por primera vez en la novela Cien años de soledad, en la trama de amor rebelde entre Renata Remedios Buendía y Mauricio Babilonia.
En aquel noviazgo furtivo, las mariposas amarillas juegan un papel fundamental porque son los insectos que revolotean constantemente, como por arte de magia, alrededor de Mauricio.

Yellow butterflies have been one of the most representative symbols of the work of Gabriel García Márquez. They appeared for the first time in the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude, in the plot of rebellious love between Renata Remedios Buendía and Mauricio Babilonia. In that furtive courtship, yellow butterflies play a fundamental role because they are the insects that constantly flutter, as if by magic, around Mauritius.
